Local Area Unemployment Statistics - Labor Force Data

The Local Area Unemployment Statistics program is a federal and state cooperative venture that counts the number of people working— not jobs—by where they live. The data collected includes individuals either working or actively seeking work during any part of the week that includes the 12th of the month. The results are used to develop monthly labor estimates of labor force statistics—the number of persons employed, unemployed and the unemployment rate—at the state, county, labor market area level and for selected cities. Labor force data are used by state and loval governments for economic development, budget planning and training programs. These estimates are also used to determine eligibilty for benefits in various federal assistance programs. Under section 203(b)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. §1153(b)(5), 10,000 immigrant visas per year are available to qualified individuals seeking permanent resident status on the basis of their engagement in a new commercial enterprise. Permanent EB-5 resident status is available to investors, either alone or coming with their spouse and unmarried children. Eligible aliens are those who have invested – or are actively in the process of investing – the required amount of capital into a new commercial enterprise that they have established. They must further demonstrate that this investment will benefit the United States economy and create the requisite number of full-time jobs for qualified persons within the United States.
