Idaho’s population projected to grow at 1.5% annually through 2034
The department’s population model projects that the state population will grow at an annual rate of 1.5% through 2034, for a statewide total of 2,364,544 in 2034.

How do these projections work?
The department creates population projections using detailed demographic data which take into account factors like birth rates, death rates and in- and out-of-state migration.
The U.S. Census Bureau maintains multiple programs for estimating the population of states, counties and cities. These programs include the Census July Population Estimates and population numbers generated from the Bureau’s American Community Survey. Since these estimates come from different programs and methodologies, they often slightly differ.
In the interest of updating our population projections in a timely manner, we base our estimates on those from the American Community Survey. As a result, the data in our forecast may differ from other estimates you’ve encountered.
