Regional news

  • Phase one of the $18 million District Interoperability Governance Board region two fiber optic project between Nezperce and Orofino began construction in mid-September. When completed, a new middle-mile fiber optic line from Grangeville to Orofino will be put in place (phase two will run from Nezperce to Grangeville). The project also includes last-mile fiber-to-the-premises for the cities of Nezperce and Grangeville and will connect to the 198-mile Idaho Regional Optical Network broadband partnership from Grangeville to Star.   • The Port of Lewiston and Crown Utilities have started phase one construction of the middle-mile broadband project from Moscow to Lewiston. Phase two will extend to Grangeville and will then connect with the Idaho Regional Optical Network to link Grangeville and Star. The project is expected to be complete in the first half of 2027.   • All Umpqua Bank locations have been rebranded to Columbia Bank as of Sept. 1, 2025. This includes three branch locations in north central Idaho in Moscow, Lewiston and Grangeville. Source: Umpqua Bank

Nez Perce County

  • The Lili GC Foundation hosted a grand opening event at their new Lewiston location. The nonprofit entity provides quality of life services for women experiencing gynecological cancers. Source: Lewiston Tribune
  • The City of Lewiston granted a request for Moonlight Mountain Recovery to open a 16-person sober living home in the Lewiston Orchards. The facility will be staffed by four employees. Idaho County

  • Tates Rents hosted a grand opening celebration at their new equipment rental location in Grangeville. The site is the former Prairie Rental Center. Tates Rents currently has locations in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Caldwell and McCall. Source: Tates Rents
  • Connecting U Bus Service is offering free transit rides between Riggins and New Meadows/McCall every other Friday and from Riggins to Grangeville the first Wednesday of each month. The service is provided by Salmon River Transit and is open to all riders. Seats must be reserved 48 hours in advance. Priority will be given for seniors and those with medical appointments.
